
Steve has extensive public policy experience with an expertise in technology, energy and environmental issues. He has served in senior public policy positions in the U.S. Congress, the Executive Branch, and the private sector.
Steve began his career in Washington, DC, working for his hometown Congressman, ultimately serving as Legislative Director where he managed all legislative activity. He received a Presidential Political Appointment during the Clinton Administration to serve at the U.S. Department of Energy. This included positions as Senior Advisor for Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs, and Associate Director of the Office of Policy. He continued practicing energy and environment policy as Managing Director of Government Affairs at the American Gas Association.
Steve then transitioned to the telecommunications and high-tech arena where he served in senior positions at both Motorola and Qualcomm. In these positions he focused on a wide variety of issues including grid modernization, Internet of Things, smart cities, cybersecurity, privacy, identity management, and sustainability.
Steve currently serves as Chairman of the Smart Cities Council Policy Committee where he has helped spur the introduction of Smart Cities legislation in Congress such as the Smart Cities and Communities Act, and the Street Act. In addition, he serves as project manager of the “Readiness for Resilience” program focused on helping communities impacted by natural disaster integrate smart, resilient technology into the infrastructure through public-private partnerships.
Steve has a Bachelors Degree in Economics from Rollins College, and a Master of Science Degree in Environmental Sciences and Policy from Johns Hopkins University.
