I’m a connector and creative problem solver who specializes in linking people and businesses with resources to help them succeed. I enjoy digging up new assets and helping people capitalize on new opportunities. No stranger to networking, I seek to meet new people, learn new things, and then creatively apply that knowledge to improve the community of Independence.
As Economic Development Director, my job is to act as an advocate for business within the City of Independence and to foster an entrepreneurial attitude in all segments of the community: business, civic, and government. I maintain relationships with local and regional businesses and agencies, using those connections to pass on relevant information, identify recruitment prospects, and identify programs or opportunities which will benefit Independence businesses. I also use my connections to form creative partnerships to empower citizens and attack multiple issues with a single project. A great example of this is our sidewalk repair program, where a partnership between the City, Habitat for Humanity and several workforce organizations trains youth in STEM while they repair broken sidewalks in the community.
Whether its connecting a small business to consulting resources, getting media attention for a large business, or helping a community group raise funds and build a playground, connections are what make a project succeed, and that is where I excel.
