
Dr. Jibonananda (Jibo) Sanyal directs the Computational Urban Sciences research group at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the US DOE’s largest science and energy national laboratory. The CUS group focuses on applied translational research using data science, machine learning, high-performance computing, and modeling & simulation, to understand complex urban systems to address key challenges in transportation and mobility, the built environment, the electric grid, weather and climate, and various aspects of resiliency. He brings a unique blend of knowledge in computer science and urban sciences, with deep technical, institutional, and strategic leadership and a track record of innovation, technology development, and commercialization. He is recognized internationally for his contributions, is an ACM distinguished speaker, serves on editorial boards, panels, national and international committees, presented many invited/keynote talks, and has won several awards, including Knoxville’s 40 under 40 in 2018.
